Little Perfect Moments

When Bailey was younger and slept most of the day {mostly on me} those little perfect moments that take your breath away happened every day. Having a baby fall asleep on you for hours on end will do that. Now that she's older and ridiculously independent {a.k.a wants nothing to do with me most of the time} those moments don't happen as much which can be sad but also great at the same time. When those moments come I'm always reminded to savour them for as long as I can {a.k.a until Bailey gets sick of me}.

Yesterday, we were on the couch together watching One Fine Day. It was just her and I and it was great. We shared spoonfuls from a tub of Nutella and watched the movie. Bailey giggled and said "mumma" to ensure that she was given more spoonfuls than necessary. We cuddled and she almost fell asleep on me until she got an extra spurt of energy {that lasted until 8.00 pm that night} and then she was off and I was left with the warmth of the perfectness of the moment.

Friday Loves

Can I just express how utterly grateful I am that it's Friday? This week really took it out of me. I'm craving some serious couch time that's going to be a weekend essential in between errands and other such necessities. This post is going to be a bit of a repeat of last week. I didn't really fall in love {or lust} with anything this week and instead of phoning it in I wanted to share some songs I've loved every day of the week for years on end.

this was my favourite song as a teenager {and whenever I'm feeling sad or remembering the past it gets me through}
I feel this song is very me
this is my favourite song of all time
so is this {I can't decide...}
this was one of my favourite songs when I was in primary school
my husband picked this as our song
though if it had of been around way back in 2005 this would probably have been it {it's also the only song that soothed bailey when she was younger}
he and I always sing along to this
as a family we adore this

have a wonderful weekend

My Must Reads

Summer Crossing - Truman Capote
In Cold Blood - Truman Capote
1984 - George Orwell
Life of Pi - Yann Martel

If I could only re-read 4 books for the rest of my life it would be these {although, I'd miss the Harry Potter books terribly}. These are my all time favourites and each hold a special meaning. Summer Crossing is the first "classic" that I ever read and I fell in love with it instantly. I happened upon my first copy of it {I now have 4 different covers} at a book sale for $5 and it not only began my love affair with Truman Capote but also with books that hold a deeper meaning. Crossing is frustratingly short and though it finishes perfectly it always leaves me wanting more. I adore this book so much that I always sleep with a copy right beside my bed and find myself re-reading it whenever I'm feeling down {or happy/neutral, etc}.

In Cold Blood is a book I struggled to get through due to its devastating truth. I found myself having to put the book down in certain parts because it was haunting but once I completed it I found myself wanting to read it over and over again {the copy above is actually a copy of a first edition, first print, that Husband found for me}. Capote certainly was a genius.

1984 is one of Husband's favourites {he is an Orwell fan}. He may or may not have begged me to read this and I may or may not have been reluctant to do so. It didn't seem like my type of book but once I began I couldn't get enough. I first read this about 4 years ago and Husband and I still discuss and argue certain plot points in this. It's that good.

Life of Pi is another non-Jaye book in the most amazing way possible. I first read this over 7 years ago when I was deep in my chic-lit phase. It's slow to start but you're left intrigued from the very beginning and by the end you'll be left in mouth-open awe at its brilliance.

J Review: Dettol Touch of Foam Hand Wash

After years of searching I have found a hand wash that does not irritate my hands. It feels like I tried every hand wash ever sold and they were all wrong for my sensitive skin. This Dettol range is different and is gorgeously foamy and smells delicious. It doesn't dry out my hands {which is weird because foaming cleansers do dry out my face} and doesn't create itching or a rash {the original Dettol hand wash, even the moisturising versions, caused really gross rashes all over my hands}.

Dettol says: Dettol Touch of Foam has a unique creamy later, enriched with micro-bubbles that deliver moisture to the skin, so your hands feel soft and comfortable after washing. It is dispensed as a ready-to-spread, non-drip lather, which kills 99.9% of germs.

The Dettol Touch of Foam hand washes are available in 3 variants: Wild Berry Bliss {my favourite}, Jasmine & Almond Dream and Rose & Cherry in Bloom and are also available in refill packs.

And like my incredibly riveting review on toothpaste that's about all I have to say about a hand wash. Though I think I will add this:

If you have incredibly sensitive skin/hands then this soap is perfect for you.

Friday Loves

Since I haven't done much of anything for the past few weeks I don't actually have anything much to share in the way I usually do so this Friday it's going to be a little different. I wanted to share what I love about my Husband, Minnie, Summer, Bailey and even myself because 2012, and the beginnings of 2013, really showed me that my life and the people in it are pretty amazing.

1. I love that my he loves cuddles and kisses. It took almost 7 years but now I love them too.
2. I love that my he's my best friend in all the most cliche ways. There is nobody else I'd rather share everything with.
3. I love that, to he and I, nothing is more special than watching a movie together and just cuddling in each others arms.
4. I love that he makes me cups of tea just because.
5. I love him as a father.

1. I love that she's a recluse but when you really want to see her she's always there.
2. I love that when we first met her, all those years ago at the RSPCA, she rolled over for tummy rubs even though she'd been hurt before.
3. I love that she never does anything for herself {you have to take her to the door when she wants to go outside} but as soon as I'm sad she goes the whole hundred.
4. I love that she's completely crazy but also refined.
5. I love that she adores Bailey in her own Minnie-way.

1. I love that she's so consistent in her love for poop.
2. I love that she's always been loved but is always needy.
3. I love that she's so clueless and steps on people and then acts like she had no idea they were there.
4. I love when she snorts like a pig as she's drifting off.
5. I love that she's Bailey's most favourite.

1. I love that she's such an individual and such a character.
2. I love that she insisted on sleeping in just a nappy and sneakers the other day.
3. I love that she's so full of life and always so happy.
4. I love her cry. She makes crying seem so cute.
5. I love that she loves to spend time with Husband and I cuddled on the couch.

1. I love that I've finally learnt to not let what people say bother me.
2. I love that I always want to be better and do better.
3. I love that I love random dance parties even when I'm in public.
4. I love that I'm still a head-in-a-book kind of girl.
5. I love that I'm pale and wear polka dots and bows.

And I think it's fair to say that we all love that it's almost the weekend

Top 12 of 2012

2012 was a turning point in regard to beauty for me. I didn't buy anywhere near my usual amount of products and I learnt to use the products I had. Despite only owning 6 foundations I found that this was probably my best beauty year. It was the year of the BB Cream. I learnt to go make up-less more often and finally found the skincare to make my skin glow. Since it was 2012 I thought I might try and be clever and do my top 12 products for the year {also, I noticed a lot of people talking about their top 12 so not really that clever on my part...}

A Brief Hiatus

Husband goes back to work in a week so I'm going to enjoy that time with my family and take a little break. If the sun stays there will be lots of swimming involved.
